Death Over Dayton | TWA 553 Ohio Mid-Air Collision
This is the story of TWA flight 553, I started this channel because I wanted to shed light on the incidents and accidents that other people over looked because these incidents for whatever reason as I belive that we can learn a lot from the lesser known incidents. A lot of the safety practices that we take for granted come from smaller accidents like the one that we are going to look at today. TWA flight 553 was a flight between Newyork and Chicago with stops at harrisburg, pittsburgh and dayton ohio. TWA opted to operate a DC-9 on this route as the DC9 was just the right size for this job with only 25 passengers being on the leg from pittsburgh to dayton. The jet took off from the Pittsb...

To your question about the bunching of engines, it's statistically potentially disastrous and as wide separation as possible seems desirable. All designs are necessary compromises and maybe bunching control mechanisms saves weight but is yet another hazard. Modern twin under wing long haul designs seem ideal, albeit I ' d like another couple but.. I was told that the 4 engines were hung on 1 massive steel bar,OK if it remains intact,but... As an analysis this is excellent, good script, delivery, exposition etc, well done. Regarding routes, I had a flight crew relative who flew the later abandoned Andes route on from Trinidad through Caracas,Bogota, Quito into Lima. Anyone got any expereince/ anecdotes? I did hear of a VNE Mach- exceed incident due to a mountain air pocket and control surface damage.

Total incompetence and arrogance on pilots part! Captain was non chalant and didnt take the multiple warnings seriously. So many red flags and tbh fasting is not to blame. If they are having discussions about covid and other topics, they seem fine. For a captain with 25 years service, your expertise is on auto pilot. Last point, when he had failed the psychological exam, you learn what to say the next time, so he played the system to a tee. Really sad story overall!

Pakistan is a defaulted country 4. lots of people with fake academic degrees are in Pakistan's politics, and other academic facilities. Hence it is very hard to tell that whether a doctor, engineer or even a pilot got a genuine academic degrees or not. 5. So if plane crashes or any other major accident happens, it is from Allah, nothing has to do with humans. 6. As a Pakistani, I never travel through PIA. I wonder if the people at NASA who knew these amazing young astronauts had at best a 1% chance of surviving reentry are able to sleep at night. They avoided getting photo's of the left wing while in orbit because they were afraid of what they would see. They swept this problem under the rug. Disgusting. The pencil pushers responsible for destroying 2 space shuttle's and for killing the astronauts in them are disgusting criminals.

The crew of the Shuttle were hopefully unconscious or dead before they were incinerated. No improvement to seats or suits would've made the slightest difference. The original plans for the space shuttle, as envisaged by NASA, called for a smaller, simpler vehicle that would either ferry people or cargo but not both at the same time. Even the final payload was much greater than NASA would've preferred. The size of the vehicle was at the behest of Government committee. Had NASA's less ambitious goal been realized, it is unlikely this disaster would've occurred. Much the same can be said for Challenger. NASA's preference was for a single segment booster. Such a motor was even tested, successfully, by Aerojet-Dade in their Homestead facility in Florida. However, political interference by a senator from Utah, who twisted the Governments arm, resulted n the selection of Thiokol's motor. A decision which, in my opinion, made no sense whatsoever. If there is any overarching lesson to be learned, it is that Government should not interfere with NASA's decision making process. There should be no political hacks or appointees in NASA. Government sets NASA's objectives, but is invariably unwilling to appropriately fund NASA to meet their demands. As a result of committee interference, we see one dumb decision after another, which extends all the way to the Artemis program - a program that is, to be blunt, a complete nonsense. Despite their ludicrous demands, NASA;s budget for 2024, was again cut (which merely continues a long, almost unbroken trend of budget cutbacks). With such budget shortfalls, NASA is forced to cancel or postpone vital missions such as the Mars sample recovery program along with additional probes to the outer planets and moons. Even when the projects aren't outright cancelled, the net result is realized as project delays. What NASA does so spectacularly well is science. This should be their focus. Pointless manned missions, and even the planned lunar base, should be separately financed and made the sole responsibility of SpaceX. It should be obvious, but the insanity continues. If SpaceX succeeds with Starship, which I believe is probable, then the entire Artemis SLS and capsule design is essentially redundant. It's unlikely, extremely unlikely, that more than 3 manned Artemis SLS missions will ever be flown - what a monumental waste of NASA's time and meager resources.

Thanks for this great video. Shaheen Airlines may have been the second largest airline of Pakistan, but it had a sordid history. It was started by a former Pakistan Airforce pilot who had connection to the corrupt Pakistani armed forces. As everyone knows that the Pakistan army runs the country and there is no democracy in that country. After the founder, his two sons took over the airline. By cutting corners father and the sons "built" this awful airline. Irregularities in its operation were rampant over the years but the Pakistani authorities never investigated them. Even after the liquidation of the airline and the shameful accidents like above, the two sons of the founder.... run around free in Canada with all the stolen money they got by not paying the salaries of 5000 thousand employees, and the money that they owed to the state. The army never allowed the government to go after them and the corruption once again won in that country. The reason the first officer never interfered with the actions of the pilot is because of a “cultural” impediment that makes Pakistanis not question the authority of their superiors. That trait in itself is responsible for many ills in that society.
